Event Details

A highlight of the June 7 Friends’ Annual Meeting will be a look back at Potomac’s history. Back by popular demand, Friends of the Library, Potomac chapter member Ralph Buglass will discuss—in a richly illustrated talk—the early days of Potomac, back when it was known as Offutt’s Crossroads.

A descendant of the Offutt family and a member of the Montgomery County Historical Society Speakers Bureau, Mr. Buglass will detail when and how the village came to be called Potomac, with feuding among the family, the end of slavery, a business partnership gone bad, and attempted murder all playing a part—not to mention a few ghostly appearances in later years!

Ralph gave this presentation two years ago to an evening standing-room-only audience; for those who missed it the Potomac Friends Chapter is offering another opportunity. The talk will begin at 1:30 pm following the Annual Meeting’s brief business session.

All are invited to this free program. The Annual Meeting will include a brief review of the past year’s accomplishments and will be followed by election of officers. Current Friends members are eligible to vote.
