February is Library Lovers Month!

Anansegromma of Ghana, Saturday, Feb. 16, 10:30 am–noon

Come join the “royal elders” and musicians of a typical West African Village! Enjoy an exhilarating and memorable performance of traditional music, storytelling, and dance. Through “call and response” songs, games, and drum rhythms on authentic instruments, Anansegromma offers an engaging, firsthand exploration of West African cultural traditions. In celebration of Black History Month. All ages. Third-floor program room.

Author Series Evening with Kim Roberts, Thursday, February 21, 7:00-8:30 pm

The popular adult Author Series is back for 2019 with Kim Roberts, who will discuss her book, A Literary Guide to Washington, DC: Walking in the Footsteps of American Writers from Francis Scott Key to Zora Neale Hurston. Part walking tour, part anthology, the book covers five particularly vibrant periods in the history of Washington’s literary community—from the late eighteenth century through the Civil War and World War I to the Jazz Age. A book signing will follow and coffee will be served, courtesy of our generous friends at Kefa Café. Third floor program room

Mark Jaster, Saturday, Feb. 23, 10:30–11:30 am

Renowned mime Mark Jaster will perform Wingnut, a family-friendly interactive clowning performance featuring the foolish and musical misuse of tools. A folding rule becomes a shark, a saw makes lyrical melodies, and a drop cloth creates characters requested by the audience. A treat for the whole family! Third-floor program room.
