Tom Lilly presents “Beowulf T. Wunderbunny’s Traveling Show of Mystery,” a performance of balloons, puppets, magic and more. Designed for preschool and early elementary ages.

Progressive hiphop artist and instrumentalist Christylez Bacon showcases is unique blend of musical genres and skills during an exciting and interactive performance. Designed for older elementary and middle school students.

Joe Romano presents “Books! The Magic Is Real!,” bringing books to life through the art of magic and illusion, highlighting popular stories. Designed for elementary-age students.

Banjo Man Frank Cassel and Katy Morse present “Beside  Ourselves,” a duo string performance of folk and bluegrass music, and talk about the evolution of the banjo. Designed for young audiences and families.

Glen Echo Park Aquarium presents “Under the Sea.” Come learn about ocean life and meet a variety of sea animals (including a baby shark)! Children will view marine artifacts and learn about ecology, habitat, and conservation during this lively and educational program presented by a marine scientist. Designed for elementary-age students.

We welcome your donations of used books!

We are excited to be able to accept donations of gently-used books to stock the book cart. Please drop off your donations in the yellow tub behind the used book cart by the elevators on the 3rd floor.

Please remember that we are not able to accept magazines or textbooks. Thank you.

We invite you to join Friends of the Library, Silver Spring. Your membership dues and contributions allow us to augment public funding for programs, materials, and equipment at Silver Spring Library.

 Volunteer with us!

By giving a little of your time, you can make a big difference for our community. We need volunteers to help with

  • sorting donations for book cart sales
  • preparing mailings
  • staffing events
  • publicizing our events through your social media networks, neighborhood listservs, and other outlets
  • writing or photographing for our newsletter
  • translating event information into Spanish, Amharic, and other languages, as needed
  • serving on a committee or as an officer of our chapter
