Author Series: The Genocidal Gaze
Thursday, April 19, 7:00-8:30 pm

Thirty years before Hitler came to power, the Germans committed genocide in their African colony, the country we now call Namibia. Few people today know that some 75,000 indigenous people were killed between 1904 and 1907. Drawing on research for her recent book, The Genocidal Gaze: From German Southwest Africa to the Third Reich, Professor Elizabeth Baer will show how this served as a prelude to the Nazi Holocaust. Baer will illustrate her presentation with historical photographs and maps. Jointly sponsored with Silver Spring Library Advisory Committee and MCPL.
