Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. They contribute thousands of hours of service each year as Board members, Chapter representatives, bookstore and office assistants, and special project coordinators.

Bookstore assistant – sort, shelve, organize and price books; assist customer and donors; help maintain pleasant bookstore environment.

Board member – share your time and expertise on the Board of Trustees. Serve on one of many committees to help fundraise, advocate or plan programs. Members can serve two three-year terms. Attendance at quarterly Board meetings and commitment to supporting libraries are mandatory. A non-voting 10th grade student member is selected every two years. Chapter volunteer – support your local library by serving on the Chapter Board, organizing a book sale, planning activities, beautifying the grounds, advocating for your library and much more!

Office assistant – support the administrative staff behind the scenes by designing newsletters and fliers, coordinating literary program, mass mailings and membership processing to name a few.

Volunteer Application

The minimum age of volunteers is 14 years or older or in the eighth grade, with the following exceptions: Young people who volunteer with a group, such as Scout troops/families, or young people who come together for a specific function. All volunteers under the age of 18 must complete a Student Volunteer Application form, which includes the parent/guardian’s signature of consent and an emergency card.
