The Rockville Friends of the Library (FOL) will hold an indoor book sale at the Rockville Memorial Library, on Saturday May 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to stock up for your summer reading and listening pleasure! There is a large selection of gently used – even some brand new – books, videos, DVDs and CDs. You won’t find a better bargain – most books are $1 or less – specialty books are priced a little bit higher. The book selection includes: children’s, young adult and adult books, fiction and non-fiction such as biographies & memoirs, politics & history, religion & philosophy, cookbooks, and a category called “How-to” which includes anything you can learn i.e., knitting, exercise, diet, psychology, travel, and more. There are also books in languages other than English.

The FOL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and all proceeds will help the Rockville Memorial Library. If you have any questions or would like to either join the Rockville Friends of the Library or make a monetary donation please contact RockvilleFOL@gmail.com.

10:00 to 11:00                        Aspen Hill Library Advisory Committee meeting.  You are welcome to attend.  All meetings of the LAC are open to the public.

11:00 to Noon                        Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Aspen Hill Library. Reports will be given about activities and plans. Officers will be elected. This is your chance to speak out! Come and say what you want to say about library services or what the Friends are doing (programs, book sales, memorials).  This is a great opportunity to volunteer and get involved!!

Noon                           Lunch.   Let us know if you want a box lunch. They’re really good. You’ll have a sandwich, small salad, fruit, dessert, and beverage for the low price of $6.00 (the FOL is subsidizing the lunch to encourage your attendance).  Please let us know if you want a box lunch, so we’ll be sure to have enough great food available.  To order your box lunch, you may cut out and mail the luncheon “ticket” below, or call Chris Swan at (301) 871-1113, or e-mail her at cswan@usa.net.  Please reserve your lunch by Monday, April 16.

1:00 to 2:00                Speaker.  We’re excited! This year our speaker will be Elizabeth Novara, who is a Curator of Special Collections at the University of Maryland’s Hornbake Library. She will make a presentation about Women and the Civil War. As a native Marylander, she is particularly interested in women’s history within the state of Maryland. She and her family are relatively new members of our Aspen Hill community, so we want to give her a big welcome.

The showings take place on the 1st Saturday of the month and start at 1 p.m.  Films will not be shown in the summer months — June, July and August — but showings will resume in September.

Please come and enjoy the films.  There is, of course, no price of admission and no need to register in advance.  The titles of the films to be shown are posted on the calendar on this web site as well as on the Montgomery County Public Library web site and colorful posters about each film are are posted in the Library during the month preceding each showing.  For more information, call the Chevy Chase Library at 240-773-9590.
