Save the Date FEB 12 – LOVE YOUR LIBRARY– we are having our very fun bi-annual Book Sale/Bake Sale/Special Children’s Program (Comedy-Magic Show!) is coming on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 12^th. Click

In the afternoon at 2 pm, there will be an additional special multi-cultural presentation - Journey Through African American History: learn about the Underground Railroad in Maryland’s Network to Freedom and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, Reverend Josiah Henson (Uncle Tom’s Cabin) . . . .

The Silver Spring Chapter of the Friends of the Library and the Silver Spring Library Advisory Committee will have a joint meeting this coming Monday, January 24, 2011, at 7:30 pm in the basement meeting room of the library to discuss our budget advocacy strategy. This is of heightened interest as we come into the third year of devastating library budget cuts – 24% was the last cut – and a further 15% is proposed! The Friends of the Library has started a county wide campaign – LIBRARIES MATTER – NO MORE CUTS. Please join us.

AARP Tax Preparation Assistance – at the Silver Spring Library on Feb. 15, Feb 22, March 1,8, 15, 22 and 29. Start time 1:30 pm. AARP volunteer provide fee tax form preparation assistance to low- middle-income people. BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call 240-777-2577, Monday Friday, 9:30 am to 3 pm to make an appointment.
