The Bethesda Friends produce a quarterly newsletter– email the chapter at bethesda@folmc.org to join their mailing list.
Join them for their Classics in Context series with Chapter leader Michael Bevel as he brings 19th Century literary into 2009. This year-long series features books from four different influences– Gothic/Sensation novels, Novels by women, European writers, and Late- and Post-Victorian novelists. This is a unique opportunity to gain perspective on the defining works of the time with friends and neighbors. See the calendar below for more information, and their newsletter has even more details.
After a banner year of programming and activism, Friends of the Library, Bethesda Chapter, is facing a time of change. The chapter hasn’t changed, but the library system we cherish is going to be a more austere place in the coming year. Reductions in library hours, staff and collections will also mean cutbacks in programs – both those run by the librarians and those run by FOL-B. The challenge will be to see how we redefine ourselves –- we can’t and shouldn’t be trying to gloss over what patrons will understand as a new age for our library, but at the same time, we will be called upon and must respond.
At this time, it’s great to celebrate all that the past year has been to Bethesda.
